BEST TIME TO GO

This safari itinerary is available year-round, and each season offers its own unique magic.

  • June to October is the dry season, the best time for spotting big game. Wildlife gathers around rivers and waterholes, and vegetation is thinner, making animals easier to spot.

  • December to March brings the calving season in the southern Serengeti / Ndutu area (inside Ngorongoro Conservation Area), when tens of thousands of wildebeest give birth—and predators are never far behind.

  • April to May is the green season: lush, quiet, and excellent for photography and birdwatching. Occasional showers make the landscape vibrant and beautiful.

  • November sees short rains, but the experience remains rich and peaceful, with fewer visitors.

We’ll help you time your safari perfectly based on your travel dates and what you’d most love to see, or we’ll make suggestions on how you can optimize the itinerary if your travel dates are fixed.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

This route is carefully designed to minimize backtracking and long drives, so while many things are possible in your tailor-made itinerary, we wouldn’t recommend it. E.g. driving directly from Arusha to the Serengeti is not recommended because it can take 8 hours or more. That’s why we put Tarangire and a night in Karatu in between. The current itinerary also allows you to start gently—with a walk in Arusha National Park—and gradually build up to the wildlife-rich Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater.

We do recommend inversing the Serengeti and Ngorongoro if you’re including flights. That way, you avoid having to backtrack and save a lot of time on drives.

All our safaris are fully private, meaning it’s just you (and your travel companions) in the safari vehicle, with your own professional guide. This gives you full flexibility and a much more personal experience.

Absolutely! Many travelers combine this safari with a Tanzanian cooking class, a refreshing dip in the Kikuletwa Hotsprings or a few days on Zanzibar’s beaches. We’ll happily help you design a custom combo.

Our packages include park fees, private vehicle and guide, accommodation, meals on safari, and all listed activities. International flights, visa fees, and optional extras (like tips or drinks) are not included. For a full breakdown, see the Prices & Services section on this page.

We’d recommend this safari to children from around 7-8 years old and would ideally advise to add an extra day in between Tarangire and the Serengeti, to relax or add a short activity in Mto wa Mbu, near the parks. Younger children might get bored or tired during the longer drives and from spending 6 days on game drives. Please keep in mind that walking safaris have a minimum age of 12, but we can easily adapt the itinerary to include only a game drive.

You’ll travel in a 4×4 Land Cruiser with a pop-up roof, designed for wildlife viewing. It has window seats for all guests, power outlets, and a fridge or cooler box. It’s just your group in the car—no strangers.
