DAY TRIPS AND SHORT TOURS AROUND MOSHI
If you ask us for a list of amazing things to see in Moshi town, we’ll probably have to disappoint you. There’s no architectural treasures or perfectly maintained parks. No shopping malls or hip restaurants for a fancy dinner. But there’s a vibe. A laid-back atmosphere that we can’t quite manage to define. Streets full of people, lively markets and bars playing reggae music all day long. Coffee plantations, waterfalls and little local villages just 30 minutes out of town. Unexpected encounters whilst driving along bumpy roads, and views out of a dream. The smell of a homemade meal, and the pride of your local guide when he tells you about his tribe’s culture.
Nope, there’s not much to see in Moshi… but there’s thousands of things to experience. So don’t just make it the starting point of your safari or climb, but stay a few more days before or after. We promise you won’t regret it!
Below is a selection of day trips and short tours in and around Moshi. They can each be booked as separate tours, or can be combined with any other package or custom tour. Let us know your wishes and we’ll send you the right price!
KIKULETWA HOT SPRINGS
A little oasis just a short drive off the main road between Moshi and Arusha, the Kikuletwa hotsprings are the perfect place to relax. And as it’s not only the destination that counts, the journey up to the hot springs is one to remember as well. Possible as a day trip or with a night of camping.
KIKULETWA HOT SPRINGS & MAASAI VILLAGE
Combine your visit to the hot springs with a few hours in an authentic Maasai village. You’ll meet the villagers and take part in their every day routines, visit one of their houses, speak some Kimaasai, learn about their medicine, and who knows, they might even let you milk one of their cows!
MATERUNI WATERFALL AND COFFEE TOUR
An authentic Chaga village on the edge of Kilimanjaro National park, Materuni village is only a 45-minute drive from Moshi. During this trip you’ll hike to the waterfalls, try local food and beer, make your own coffee in a traditional way and learn heaps about Chaga culture.
ARUSHA NATIONAL PARK 1-DAY SAFARI
Home to Mount Meru and one of the smaller parks of Tanzania, Arusha National Park is ideal for a day trip. It’s one of the few national parks in Tanzania offering walking safaris, and we’ll gladly make you explore this option. The diversity in wildlife and landscapes is huge, and you’ll be able to see a lot in just one day.
MOUNT KILIMANJARO DAY HIKE – PICK FROM 2 OPTIONS
If you want to hike Mount Kilimanjaro on a moderate to difficult trek but without climbing all the way to the top, we have 2 options for you. One is a hike inside Kilimanjaro National Park that takes you through the rain forest zone up to 2700 m. The other one is a hike in a secret location on the lower slopes, over narrow paths, through villages and past waterfalls up to about 1800 m.
MARANGU CULTURAL TOUR, COFFEE TOUR & WATERFALL
A full day in Marangu village, to get an in-depth local Chagga experience. You’ll visit Chagga caves, which they dug to escape attacks from the Maasai, a Chagga house replica, a local Chagga museum, a beautiful waterfall, you’ll get to make your own coffee from A to Z, and you’ll enjoy a local lunch and some local banana beer.
SUNSET PICNIC AROUND MOSHI
Pizza, wine and an amazing sunset. This tour is for romantic souls and comes in 2 versions. Pick option 1 for a sunset over the old railway station with a view of Kilimanjaro, and option 2 for a sunset in Moshi’s countryside, on the slopes of Kilimanjaro. Either way, you won’t be disappointed!
