We believe cultural tourism should empower, not exploit. That’s why our cultural Maasai experiences are guided by the communities themselves, particularly in less-visited places like Lake Natron. These visits don’t include staged dances, forced performances or moments during which we disturb the kids during class – but the opportunity to share real moments of daily life and conversations about life, tradition, and change in Maasai society today. Whether it’s a walk guided by a local Maasai or an overnight stay in a Maasai accommodation, these experiences are immersive, respectful, and always honest.
WHY WE DON’T OFFER TYPICAL SHORT MAASAI VILLAGE VISITS
These typical visits to Maasai villages in e.g. Ngorongoro Conservation Area or Mto wa Mbu and Karatu are nothing else than a combination of a tourist trap and a human zoo, and we want nothing to do with either of those. Respect for everybody involved in our tours – whether that’s the Maasai or you, our customer – is of the highest importance to us, and these experiences simply don’t fall under that requirement. But don’t worry, we have plenty of options that will allow you to have a responsible Maasai experience in Tanzania, keep reading to learn more!
