Whether you’re starting or ending your trip in Moshi or Arusha, you don’t have to go far to experience real Tanzanian culture. Our local experiences and cultural day trips around Moshi, Arusha and the greater Kilimanjaro area introduce you to local life — from walking through coffee plantations with a Chagga guide to cooking traditional meals with Tanzanian families. Most excursions last a few hours or a full day, but a few offer overnight options for a deeper connection. Perfect for anyone who wants to truly discover local Tanzanian life, even with limited time.

Instead, several of the activities mentioned above help to support adults, to make sure they can take care of their families with dignity and offer them a good education.

THINGS TO DO NEAR KILIMANJARO – OUR MAASAI EXPERIENCES
We don’t organize the quite typical short visits to Maasai villages because we don’t believe that it’s possible to learn anything more than stereotypes about people and their culture in just an hour. The villages that are most visited near the national parks on the Northern Circuit have turned into a mix of real tourist traps and human zoos, and it genuinely makes us feel uncomfortable being there.

However, we have some other options that are amazing for those that want to learn more about Maasai culture in a deeper, respectful way that’s focused on genuine human exchange. These experiences can be organized as an add-on to your safari, or as separate packages. They include several options in the Kilimanjaro area. Head over to our dedicated ‘Maasai experiences’ page to learn more and pick your favorite option!
